Top 5 Tips for the Struggling Dog Owner
Dog Training Tips | Feb 9, 2022
Wherever you are, just start!
There’s no such thing as staying still – you’re either moving forward or backward, so just take that first step and allow the path to reveal itself. You don’t have to know exactly what you’re doing or how to do it. You just have to move in the general direction of your goals. Your future self will thank you!
Lower your tolerance for BS
There are of course so many factors that contribute to our dog’s unwanted behaviour, but the one you can 100% control is your tolerance for it. Dogs largely do what we allow, so define your boundaries in this relationship and adjust accordingly. You both deserve it!
Release the guilt and shame
Stop blaming yourself for what you did or didn’t do when you had less information. It’s a new day. Let that shit go. Period.
Find Community
No one grows or heals alone. Even the most introverted human (hi, that’s me) is biologically wired to thrive in a healthy supportive community. But they aren’t coming to rescue you – you have to seek out your people either online or in-person and nurture those relationships like your life depends on it. Because it does!
Love the dog you have (not the dog you wish you had)
Your current dog is not:
- Your previous dog
- That IG influencer’s dog
- A past version of themselves
Accepting our dogs and helping them make the most of who they are in the present moment is how we create less struggle and more harmony in our relationship.
Ready to live in harmony with your dog?
We know that the real shift happens at home between you and your dog, not us and your dog. If you’re ready to prioritize your happiness, let’s work together!
